We’ve raised more than $751,000 to fund new research into prostate cancer… over lunch

About us

More than 24,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Australia every year or 1 in 6 in their lifetime, making it the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men.

The Biggest Ever Blokes’ Lunch Melbourne exists to educate young men so they can protect themselves against this disease and raise money to accelerate research into better treatment options for those who are impacted.

The Biggest Ever Blokes’ Lunch Melbourne is a charity lunch that raises funds for Prostate Cancer Research through the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA). The Biggest Ever Blokes’ Lunch (BEBL) started in Shepparton back in 2009 after one bloke, Chris McPherson, found out he had incurable prostate cancer.

Chris wanted to persuade other blokes like him – middle-aged, and, perhaps not in peak condition – to take responsibility for their health and get tested. Chris died from prostate cancer in 2015, but as he’d hoped, many hundreds of men have now benefited from early detection due to these events.

The lunches are now held in 14 locations around Australia and have raised more than $3.5 million for prostate cancer research and regional prostate cancer nurses. In 2016 alone BEBL lunches raised more than $700,000 with more than 5,500 attendees. It is now the largest community-based fundraiser for prostate cancer research in Australia.

Melbourne Biggest Ever Blokes’ Lunch Incorporated (A0095170Z) is run entirely by a volunteer committee, and fundraises exclusively on behalf of Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (ABN 42 073 253 924).
